What is MyMedicare?

MyMedicare is a new voluntary patient registration model in Australia. It aims to formalise the relationship between patients, their general practice, general practitioner (GP) and primary care teams.
It allows you to register as a patient of your chosen clinic and select your preferred GP. If you attend our clinic with multiple doctors, you can see any GP at this clinic (even if they aren’t your ‘chosen’ doctor) and get the same benefits. Registration is free and optional.

What are the benefits of registering with MyMedicare?

Once you register a ‘Home’ clinic you will be able to:

  • Access to Medicare rebates for longer telehealth consultations.
  • Greater continuity of care with your registered practice, improving health outcomes
  • Connections to more appropriate care in general practice for people who visit hospital frequently, from mid-2024.

If you choose not to register in MyMedicare, you’ll still be able to access the same quality of care from your healthcare providers.

How do you register for MyMedicare?

  • Medicare card holder or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Veteran Card holder.
  • Had two or more face-to-face appointments at your regular practice in the past two years (or one face-to-face visit for practices in remote locations).

To register as a MyMedicare patient, you can:

  1. Start the registration process in your Medicare Online Account or Express Plus Medicare Mobile app. Our practice staff will then complete the registration in the MyMedicare system.
  2. Get in touch with us and we can start the registration in MyMedicare. This will trigger a registration in your Medicare Online Account or Express Plus Medicare Mobile app, which you can then complete.
  3. Fill out Mymedicare Registration Form at your practice. By signing the form, you are giving your consent to participate in MyMedicare with that practice. Practice staff will then complete the registration in the MyMedicare system.

NOTE:  Patients who register with a DVA Veteran Card will need to fill out a registration form at the practice as registration via Medicare online services can only be completed using a Medicare card. A parent/guardian will need to register a child under 14 years and provide consent on their behalf. Young people aged 14 to 17 years will be able to register and provide consent without a parent/guardian. It is important to note that registration for a child under 14 years will need to be completed at the practice.
